Snap never received a single purchase event — the pixel was missing at checkout

2.2xSnap ROAS confirmed — previously untrackable
94%Purchase event match rate vs Shopify orders

The situation

A cosmetics DTC brand was spending $12K/month on Snap Ads targeting 18-24 year old women. They had installed the Snap pixel on their homepage but the media buyer had never verified pixel coverage across the full funnel. Snap was reporting conversions but the numbers seemed unreliable.

The problem

The Snap pixel was installed only on the homepage and collection pages via a manual code snippet. The Shopify checkout process runs on checkout.shopify.com — a separate domain the Snap pixel snippet never loaded on. Every purchase event that should have fired on the confirmation page was missing. Snap had partial signal from add-to-cart only and was running blind on purchases.

What we did

  1. Used Snap Pixel Helper to audit coverage across all pages — pixel firing on homepage/collections, not firing on /checkout or /thank-you
  2. Implemented Snap Conversions API via Shopify webhook — server-to-server purchase event on order confirmation
  3. Added PURCHASE event with correct item_ids, price, currency, and snap_app_id
  4. Cross-referenced against Shopify revenue for same period — Snap CAPI showing 94% match rate

Why it worked

Shopify's checkout domain isolation is the most common Snap pixel failure point. The pixel snippet only runs on domains where it's installed — Shopify checkout is a separate domain that no snippet can reach without explicit Shopify partner integration or Conversions API. Brands spending on Snap without CAPI purchase events are bidding completely blind on their most important conversion.

“We had no idea our Snap pixel wasn't firing on checkout. It was only on our homepage. Saifur set up the Conversions API through Shopify webhooks and suddenly we could see a 2.2x ROAS we'd never been able to measure. That justified the entire Snap budget.”
