Eight months of LinkedIn Ads with no conversion data reaching the platform

4.7xPipeline value per LinkedIn lead vs other channels — now provable
8 moDuration LinkedIn ran with zero conversion data
100%Demo request events now reaching LinkedIn Campaign Manager

The situation

A cybersecurity SaaS selling to enterprise IT teams had been running LinkedIn campaigns for 8 months with no conversion data in Campaign Manager. The sales team said LinkedIn leads were "the best quality" but they couldn't prove it to the CFO requesting budget.

The problem

The LinkedIn Insight Tag was installed via GTM. A separate hardcoded Insight Tag snippet was also in the site header. The two were firing simultaneously creating duplicate page view events. More critically, the LinkedIn Conversion Event for demo requests was using a URL-based trigger that never matched because the confirmation page used a query parameter (?booked=true) instead of a unique URL.

What we did

  1. Removed the hardcoded Insight Tag snippet from the header — kept only the GTM-managed version to eliminate duplicate page views
  2. Changed LinkedIn conversion trigger from URL-based to event-based — triggered by a custom GTM event pushed to dataLayer on form submission
  3. Added LinkedIn Conversions API via server-side GTM container for cookieless environments (LinkedIn members often in incognito or strict browser modes)
  4. Built LinkedIn Campaign Manager dashboard with proper conversion attribution — pipeline value now visible per campaign

Why it worked

LinkedIn's audience is often privacy-conscious — enterprise IT and security professionals frequently browse in strict mode or use company browsers with cookie restrictions. Relying on client-side Insight Tag alone means you're missing a significant portion of LinkedIn-attributed conversions. The Conversions API via server-side GTM fills that gap. The quality-of-lead story was always true — it just needed the tracking to prove it.

“We knew LinkedIn leads were high quality but couldn't prove it with data. Saifur found our conversion event was never firing — wrong trigger setup. After fixing it and adding CAPI, we could show the CFO that LinkedIn leads had 4.7x the pipeline value of our Google leads. Budget doubled the next quarter.”
